A Derby charity which provides free breakfasts to hungry school children is teaming up with Seven Restaurant & Café Bar for a special networking event.

Money raised from the event will go to the 30 Days Of Giving fund-raising campaign by city businesswoman Amanda Strong. Amanda selected Breakfast Club as one of the five main recipients of the campaign which has captured the imagination of businesspeople across Derby.

Kavita Oberoi, owner of Oberoi Business Hub, instigated Breakfast Club after being astounded by the high number of children who go to school without food. She will be outlining the positive impact since it was launched in 2016.

Kavita said:

“A bowl of cereal for one child, every day of the school year, costs just £15.

“Scientific research proves that children’s ability to learn improves if they eat breakfast because their bodies are properly fuelled in the morning.

“Indeed, I have learned that a free breakfast could be even more important than I thought. I have even heard of a case where it is the only food children have eaten during the day.

“His Church distributes the cereal at very low cost but we still need financial backing for the cereal.”

The event at Seven is from 8am until 9.30am on June 25 and ticket prices of £15 include breakfast and a donation to 30 Days Of Giving.

Seven’s general manager, Campbell Salloway, said:

“We are very pleased to be contributing to 30 Days Of Giving and especially to help Breakfast Club.

“Because it is our stock in trade, we are only too aware of the importance of nutrition in food. It is imperative that all children have a healthy meal to start the day.”
